Prince Kūhiō Hoʻolauleʻa

Festivals of Aloha


The Festivals of Aloha is a two-month celebration held across Maui County, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Hawai'i through a series of vibrant events. From September to October, the festival offers a variety of activities, including hula performances, live music, local food festivals, parades, and cultural exhibitions that highlight the unique traditions of the Hawaiian Islands. These events bring together residents and visitors alike, fostering a sense of community and preserving the spirit of aloha. It’s a time to celebrate Hawaiian culture, honor its history, and create lasting memories for all who participate.

 Emma Sharpe Hula Festival

The Emma Sharpe Hula Festival on Maui celebrates the legacy of kumu hula Emma Sharpe with hula performances, workshops, and traditional Hawaiian music. The festival offers hula and ukulele workshops, along with keiki activities and cultural demonstrations, providing a fun and educational experience for all ages. It's a vibrant celebration of aloha, community, and the rich cultural traditions of Hawai'i.

Lahaina O-bon Festival ​


The Lahaina Obon Festival is an annual celebration honoring deceased ancestors with the rhythms of Japanese taiko drums and traditional Bon Dance. Dancers perform around a yagura. Held in Lahaina, the festival also features music, food, cultural exhibits, and family activities, bringing the community together in a joyful expression of heritage and spirit.

Kuhinia Maui


Led by the communities of Lahaina and Kula with the support of the County of Maui, Kuhinia Maui is a series of remembrance events marking one year after the catastrophic fires that devastated our island. These events honor the resilience, strength, and spirit of the Maui community, offering a space for reflection, healing, and unity. Through cultural activities, storytelling, and collective gatherings, Kuhinia Maui serves as a tribute to those affected, while celebrating the enduring aloha spirit that binds us all together.

Named in honor of the legendary Hawaiian vocalist Richard Hoʻopiʻi, the contest invites talented singers to compete in this traditional form of music, known for its high-pitched, emotive vocal style. The event highlights the rich legacy of Hawaiian music, honoring both the past and the future of falsetto. It brings together performers and audiences alike to celebrate the beauty of Hawaiian culture, while offering a platform for up-and-coming artists to showcase their talents.

Carmen Hulu Lindsey Leo Ha’iha’i Falsetto Contest


The Carmen Hulu Lindsey Leo Ha’iha’i Falsetto Contest is the first female falsetto contest in Hawai‘i. Conventionally a kane (male) competition, Maui leads the way in a new tradition, highlighting another beautiful facet of Hawaiian music.

HAWAIIAN FALSETTO VOL 1


In celebration of 20 years of the Richard Hoʻopi‘i Leo Ki‘eki‘e Falsetto Contest, Festivals of Aloha and Haku Records present ʻHawaiian Falsetto Vol. 1, featuring contest champions, judges, and a song from Richard Hoʻopi‘i himself. This 13-track album, available on digital platforms and limited physical copies, highlights the powerful falsetto tradition with performances by artists like 2014 winner Grant Kaimana Kono, 2010 winner Po‘okela Wood, and judge Kalani Pe‘a. Proceeds benefit future contests and music projects.
